Preparation
To activate a search a representative of Bonell Ryan Inc. meets with or speaks to the hiring manager, the management team, members of the department or division the new hire would associate with and/or human resources, not only in order to gain an understanding about why the role is open, but why an external candidate is required. If working with a first-time client, Bonell Ryan will gather further information about the organizational structure of the company, it's philosophy, it's corporate and local objectives, it's management attitudes, preferably including an on-site visit from a BRI representative.
Becoming acquainted with members of the organization who will report directly to the individual being hired and/or have a significant working association can be extremely helpful. In the event it is not possible to meet or speak with these individuals, Bonell Ryan Inc. would ask that some background information be supplied.
To be successful in identifying qualified candidates it is imperative that Bonell Ryan Inc. maintain a clear understanding of the firm's needs throughout the search, including any changes to the initial requirements and specifications that may occur during the search.
The Search
Bonell Ryan Inc. implements a recruiting plan in order to identify prospective candidates. An approved target list and thorough job description is created and research begins – utilizing it's extensive databases, independent research firms, various online tools and contact with knowledgeable executives in relevant industries.
Bonell Ryan Inc. undertakes assignments with the understanding that any candidates generated internally or through other sources will be brought into the search process with all other potential candidates, becoming, in effect, a full partner in the firm's hiring process, with the clear objective of ensuring that the best possible candidate is ultimately selected.
As suitable pre-screened candidates are generated, a complete resume will be prepared to furnish the details of the candidate's professional and educational experience. Bonell Ryan Inc. then collaborates with its client on the strengths of the candidates presented. The client may then request a phone call or face to face interview with the candidate or may hold until a slate of candidates is populated.
Bonell Ryan Inc. thoroughly interviews selected candidates using a technique that focuses on various behavior traits, attitudes, skill sets, results and cultural fit. Experience has shown that the most cost-effective manner in which to make these judgments is to conduct face-to-face interviews. A Bonell Ryan Inc. representative will travel to meet candidates, or vice versa. Video conferencing is also very efficient and cost-effective. Skype is a convenient, but less effective tool.
The most suitable candidates will meet with the client – a full schedule and travel itinerary is prepared in advance (most often by the client but also with the possible assistance of Bonell Ryan), maximizing the exposure the client's representatives have to each candidate. This is a crucial point in the search process and can very often be overlooked in its importance. It is essential that the candidate's interviewing process be well-organized and structured prior to his/her arrival and that the interview panel be prepared for and have time for his or her screening period.
Bonell Ryan Inc. will present as few candidates as possible to the client to obtain a match. In the event Bonell Ryan Inc. has not previously worked with a specific client, it may take more candidates to establish the perfect "fit."
As candidates show an interest and are of greater hiring potential to the organization, the second interview and/or appropriate next steps will be discussed fully with the client and arranged through Bonell Ryan Inc.
Following any additional visits by a candidate, the client is normally ready (with the assistance of Bonell Ryan Inc.) to compile an offer. When the candidate has to relocate, the offer is formed contingent upon the candidate having a "successful" househunting trip to the location in which the position is domiciled. "Successful" does not necessarily result in a house purchase but more that the family is unified in its decision to relocate - the trip may include realtors and school visits together with provision for any other specific needs. It is also recommended that the client have a dinner or lunch arranged with the candidate or the candidate and his/her spouse during this trip.
Open and clear communication with the client and candidate during all phases of the search is maintained by Bonell Ryan Inc. in such a manner as to ensure complete confidentiality and sensitivity.
Negotiation Stage
Due to the delicate nature of the negotiation process, any offer of employment will be extended by Bonell Ryan Inc. It is important that all areas of compensation, benefits and relocation be discussed thoroughly with both the company and the candidate.
Resignation of Candidate from Current Employer
A smooth transition from the former employer is a positive influence on the candidate's smooth transition into his/her new company. Very often candidates need guidance when terminating their employment with their present employer. Bonell Ryan Inc. assists the candidate to ensure this sometimes difficult and challenging process goes well, particularly when a counter offer is anticipated.
It is important, during this sensitive period, that close contact be maintained with the candidate by both client and Bonell Ryan Inc. prior to the candidate starting the new position.
References
References are a delicate issue and may be very difficult to obtain on individuals currently employed; however, full Reference Checks will be presented as soon as they can be obtained during the search.
Duration of Search Process
Bonell Ryan Inc.'s process for securing an appropriate candidate for employment with our clients takes anywhere from 60 to 150 days. There are, however, extenuating circumstances such as vacation, scheduling difficulties with the client's key executives and candidates, etc. which may extend the search time.
It is imperative that the momentum of a search be maintained.
Follow Up
Bonell Ryan Inc. will continually support the integration period through ongoing communication with both the client and the selected new employee until both parties are comfortable that the integration has been successfully completed.
